The PATC Trail Patrol is our educational outreach group....both in the classroom as well as on the trail. They offer classes in a variety of subjects of interest to the outdoors community. All are open to the general public, and may be one day, one weekend, or several days in length.
These classes & workshops are very popular, are all taught by PATC volunteers & usually fill-up quickly. Pre-registration is required & all participants must be 18 years of age. To ensure that classes are available to as many people as can attend, PATC Trail Patrol has developed a cancellation policy that applies to all classes.
Classes are currently offered for:
Trail Patrol Training
Wilderness First Aid

Trail Maintenance Skills
Every year, hundreds of PATC volunteers cut or reroute miles of trails. Fallen trees are removed with chainsaws, crosscut saws and axes. Stone staircases and boulder stream crossings are built using winches, highlines and rigging gear. PATC conducts or sponsors classes and workshops that teach the skills necessary to safely conduct these activities. Most are taught in conjunction with our partners in the National Park Service or State Parks. Examples of these workshops are Rigging, Advanced Stonework and Chainsaw Certification to name a few.
Upcoming workshops are highlighted in our newsletter, the Potomac Appalachian as well as on the PATC Calendar.
